2nd year M. Arch 4+3 Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) student Cesar Tran applied to the NewSchool Foundation for funding to attend a virtual design workshop offered by CAUKIN. His funding request was approved in March 2021. Watch this short video to find out more about his experience!
CAUKIN focuses on humanitarian architecture and considers new ways of practicing architecture, for example engaging directly with end-users in underdeveloped countries and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The workshop provided an opportunity to be hands-on and help build community project.

A conversation with the partner NGO and community members to better understand the issues they face
Establishing techniques for effective community engagement
A panel discussion exploring the impacts of humanitarian architecture
Learn the challenges of working in developing countries and extreme climates
Use of information gathered to develop an appropriate design Critique and presentation
